Welcome back from Hibernation 🤓 Nice vid. But i wonder more about how all the Teraphosas are doing these days. I have a big Blondi female that got paired up a little over a month ago. She was already on the heavy side and then ate the male on top and not only that, she was a bit late in her molt circle. So i fear she may molt out rather then making eggs. Is it true that you dry out the enclosure to trigger the female laying eggs? Iv been told that elsewhere. I was in the Amazon 26 years ago to go look for these spiders and it was in the raining season. We found many big females and none with eggs. So i guess it makes sense that they do it in the dry season. Also it will be easier for those big males to wander around, since they cant exactly swim.
Thank you for your reaction! And interesting question! I must say I didn’t here this before but like you say it may make sense. I had the unfortunate experience with my apophysis female once that when she had an eggsac for more than thirty days I thought the enclosure was too dry and I watered it a bit. The next day she had eaten the eggsac. Definitely worth investigating that further. Unfortunately my theraphosa adults all died meanwhile and I didn’t have offspring but I buyed new slings and they’re subadult now so I can make new vids of them soon. Hope they will become big and both male and female for mating. Cool that you went to the Amazon. Must have been amazing! :)
@@Mingu1987 Sad about that apophysis. Its could also just be because she felt disturbed. Some claim that can trigger them eating the sack as well. Especially because it was right after. There would be no time for the water to really affect the sack imo. I have a big female myself. But cant find males here in denmark and the sub adult males i can order from Poland are some what pricy imo. The Blondi female i have paired have produced a sack before and that was in a VERY damp enclosure. But the eggs were rotten when i checked on them after about 1 month. Its super hard to get enough ventilation regardless of the holes u drill, because there is no real air flow in peoples houses. So in that regard i also think its safer to go a bit dryer. At least thats what im trying this time if she does her duty :). yes i can def recommend trying to go to the Amazon at least once and hire your own guide. thats what me and my friend did. We pointed on a map and the guy took us to the place. we were out there for 3 weeks and tried eating Anaconda and Piranas we caught outselves. We were only 19yo kids back then haha. Was kinda insane looking back.
